Ealing - A police officer and a police community support officer were stabbed during a daylight attack while carrying out checks on bus tickets in London.
The 23-year-old police officer was slashed in the neck and was in stable condition following surgery. The 27-year-old PCSO was released after being treated in hospital for wounds.
A Metropolitan Police press release stated that an officer and a PCSO sustained stab wounds in the Ealing area around 15:05 and were being treated by London Ambulance Service.
It added that a male had been arrested in connection with the incident.
Aman pulled a knife after a routine check revealed that he was wanted for recall to prison.
"The man was asked to show a valid ticket and went into a violent rage. the BBC quoted Koon Midam, who was a few yards away during the attack, as saying.
"Very quickly the problem escalated as he drew his knife and made a few quick slashes.
"It was more of a shock for the first few moments and then there were the cries, the Pc dropping to the floor and the man lashing out again."
A man who had been driving past told the BBC that he saw two policemen sprinting to the back of a police car to retrieve a green first aid kit.
"They rushed back to assist a policeman who had blood on him,” he said
"I then noticed another policeman who was walking slowly and then collapsed on the pavement. His arm fell to his side."
The incident took place near Christ Church Primary school, where parents were collecting children.
"We heard screams and saw people running away,” The Guardian quoted Inam Mir, assistant manager of the Sony Centre on New Broadway, as saying. “There were people running everywhere. We saw police officers who went to go and help running past with blood on their hands. Some were running past with medical kits.”
Ch Supt Andy Rowell said it is extremely rare for police officers to receive such injuries while on duty, and he wanted to commend the officers for their actions, as well as members of the public who came to their aid.
