Building inspector charged in fraud investigation in Ontario

Markham - A Town of Markham building inspector is alleged to have solicited money from people so that they could avoid paying permit fines.
An investigation started on October 29, 2010 in Markham has resulted in the arrest of a building inspector, 36, who allegedly demanded money in exchange for avoiding permit-related fines connected with a renovation construction site in the Markham area. At least two victims who had purchased investment properties were involved with the suspect after they have neglected to obtain proper building permits. The victims were asked to give the suspect more than $4,000 to avoid paying larger fines from the city. No money was exchanged.
Police believe there may be more victims.
Marco Nando Antonellis, 36, of Toronto has been charged with breach of trust, extortion and solicit secret commission.
