November's Top Stupid Crimes and Criminals

By Kassandra Garcia     Dec 3, 2010 in Crime
A temporary lapse in judgement can cause people to do "not-so-smart" things. These criminals have topped the list for dump acts in November.
In Irvine, California, two men use a tree branch to rob a gas station on November 22. The video above is from the security camera catching it all on film, KABC-TV in Los Angeles aired the video on December 1. The man swinging the limb was apprehended and identified as 28 year old, Herlin Mendezla and with the help of an anonymous tip the get away vehicle was recovered. Police were asking for help in locating the second suspect.
Two men got into a violent fight over a slot machine in Connecticut and one gets bit on the nose. John Whittaker and Thomas McDonald, both in their 50's, were at the MGM Grand Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut when the fight broke out. The Boston Herald reported that both men were arrested and charged with breaching the peace. While McDonald was also charged with second-degree assault after biting the nose of Whittaker. Both were released on bond.
Inside of a 35 minute stretch Sunday, November 28th, the 9-1-1 call center for Clarksville, Tennessee, received 3 different calls from the same man. Each call he reported a separate, bogus, crime. When the police started investigating they discovered all three calls came from Alex Lee Baker. Police told The Witchita Eagle Newspaper "The first caller claimed to be a witness to a murder. The second claimed he had been stabbed, while the third said a woman had been killed and buried." When asked why he called into 9-1-1 with false emergencies, he told police that he hadn't had a cigarette in two days and was bored. Baker was arrested and is being held on a $15,000 bond.
To top off our list is Dustin J. Sippel of Sheboygen was arrested after "playing with his gun" while sitting on the toilet in his apartment. Sippel lives in an upstairs apartment with neighbors right below. While using the restroom he decided to check out and mess around with a gun and ammo. He stated to police that the gun accidentally fired. The bullet traveled through the floor an into the apartment below. He is being held on charges of "one felony count of first-degree reckless endangerment and misdemeanor counts of possession of a firearm while intoxicated, possession of drug paraphernalia and carrying a concealed weapon" reported the Sheboygen Press.
