article imageCanadian Go-Kart winner crashes as he celebrates victory

By Kev Hedges     Nov 26, 2010 in Sports
Daniel Morad raced in at first place in the DD2 World Go Karting Championship in Italy, but followed it with an embarrassing gaffe when he crashed while celebrating the chequered flag.
The Canadian, was 13th on the grid at the race start and made an incredible start to shoot 10 places into third - and two laps later edged up into second. Victory looked unlikely for the Lebanese-born driver as race leader Maik Barten had secured a formidable lead.
But slowly Morad, 30, overtook Barten on the 13th lap before going on to complete his win. However, as he celebrated his win, wildly punching the air in delight, his shoe-lace caught on the pedals and Morad then violently lost control of his kart - the vehicle suddenly jerked to the right and out of control before smashing into advertising hoardings just passed the winning line.
The error cost Morad a fine of 500 Euros ($650). Not that the incident will worry Morad, as he was just practising in order to stay focused for next year's GP3 series. He has been tipped for a future in Formula One and this victory has provided a valuable stepping-stone - despite the undignified ending, reports Yahoo Sport.
