WGN is calling the video broadcast:
“WGN Morning News Bridge Fail” after a group of news anchors, Robin Baumgarten, Paul Konrad and Larry Potash, waited several minutes for a live shot of a bridge implosion that was going to occur at any moment.
However, after cutting away from the actual implosion to speak with the weatherman about someone dressed as a taco parachuting into a pool of salsa, the news anchors missed it. This led to moans of disappointment and shock. Baumgarten began to repeatedly yell: “Are you kidding me!” She then stated: “This is a metaphor for our show; another crash and burn.”
Later in the broadcast, the WGN anchors
reviewed some comments they received about their reaction: “Ooops someone switched back to Paul too soon but your reactions were worth it lol,” said Leo Rohan. “That’s why I love WGN. You never know what you will see and what you will miss,” said another viewer, Liz Brandt McAllister.
As of 1:16 p.m., the video has received more than 8.2 million views on YouTube. WGN garners on average between 10,000 and 40,000 hits on their
YouTube videos.
