Ajax - When police at the scene of a family dispute in Ajax heard a loud noise outside Monday morning they went to see what was going on.
Outside they witnessed their cruisers being rammed into by a suspect repeatedly by driving his vehicle into the parked vehicles.
The suspect was still ramming the cruisers as the police approached. The suspect is alleged to have been highly agitated. He challenged the officers verbally to pursue him. At that point the police disengaged contact with the subject at the scene. Hoping to de-escalate the situation the officers did not pursue the suspect when he left the scene of the crime..
Both cruisers were damaged with one of the cars needing to be towed away from the scene.
The suspect was located and arrested shortly afterward without incident. The suspect had minor injuries from a family dispute. He did not require medical attention.
An Ajax man, 24, was arrested for assault related offences. His name is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim.
The estimate for damages to both marked cruisers is approximately $7,000. Officers were not injured during this incident.
