Yahoo is all set to jump on to the content bandwagon. The Internet giant on Tuesday launched the Yahoo Contributor Network, hosting 400,000 freelance writers, photographers and videographers from Associated Content, a firm that it bought over in May.
Yahoo said in a statement that the Yahoo! Contributor Network would give freelance content creators access to popular destinations such as Yahoo! News, Yahoo! Finance, Yahoo! Sports and the Yahoo! homepage.
Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz said in the statement, "The launch of the Yahoo Contributor Network is a great example of how Yahoo is executing against its content strategy. In less than six months since the acquisition of Associated Content, we've completely retooled the platform in order to bring the people's voice to Yahoo!. Bringing this authentic perspective to Yahoo!'s most popular sites will deepen our engagement with the millions of people who visit us every day and provide new opportunities for creative contributors who participate in the Yahoo! experience."
Associated Content will continue to serve as the official digital library for all content generated by the Yahoo Contributor Network, which will also set performance payment guidelines for content featured on the site.
Meanwhile, Yahoo's blog network, The Upshot, has announced the launch of three news blogs on media, politics and national affairs. The Upshot, which launched in July, will now be a portal to the top posts on the three new sites; The Ticket which looks at American politics, The Lookout breaking down the big national stories and The Cutline discussing the national media, according to a CNN report.
