At the Elgin Theatre in downtown Toronto, hundreds gathered outside to catch a glimpse of their favourite Canada celebrities. Canadian stars honoured the best in television at the 25th Gemini Awards.
In 1986, the first set of Gemini Awards was handed out to the best in the Canadian television industry. There are dozens of award categories, including Best Newscast, Best History Documentary Program, Best Talk Series, Best News Anchor, Best Achievement in Casting and many others.
Every year between 1986 and 2005, the Gemini Awards was hosted in Toronto at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre and the John Bassett Theatre. However, for three years, the show was hosted in British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Alberta.
The very first hosts of the Gemini Awards were Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin and Dave Thomas.

On Saturday, the 25th annual Gemini Awards was hosted at the famous Elgin & Winter Garden Theatre in downtown Toronto. Prior to the show, hundreds of screaming teenagers, photographers and average Joes stood outside of the facility in the attempt of garnering an autograph or a photograph of a Canadian actor.
“The Tudors” won Best Drama Series, “Less Than Kind” took home Best Comedy Series honours,” “The Cupcake Girls” was awarded Best Reality Series and Robert Carlyle won Best Actor for a Dramatic Role for his performance in “Stargate Universe.”
Brian Williams won his eighth Gemini Award for Best Host in a Sports Program. This year, Williams won it for his coverage of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

Since September, Canadian television viewers were given the opportunity to choose their favourite Canadian series over the past 25 years. During the broadcast of the event, it was
revealed that television viewers chose “Degrassi” as their favourite Canadian series of the past 25 years.
“Flashpoint,” “Mr. Dressup,” “Anne of Green Gables” and “Durham County” rounded up the top five.
