By KJ Mullins     Nov 11, 2010 in Crime
Scarborough - On October 31, 2010 Toronto Police 42 Division arrested three men in connection to an extortion investigation in the Agincourt area.
Toronto Police report that the suspects targets members of the Asian community in Scarborough and neighbouring areas with advertisements placed on web sites and in Asian newspapers suggesting that they were loan providers.
The victims were told to surrender their passports and legal papers as their collateral and in some cases were requested to give personal information for family members. When a victim was unable to pay assaults and threats of violence were carried out to victims and family members.
Aside from the financial harm caused to the victims, police have serious concerns for the safety of anyone being victimized by the accused.
At this time the police are not releasing the names of the suspects and the investigation is ongoing.
