A single has been released featuring the sound of total silence in honor of Remembrance Sunday. Released by the Royal British Legion, the song's video features celebrities, soldiers and politicians, including Prime Minister David Cameron.
All the well-known people in the video have contributed their part in remembering and supporting serving and ex-Service personnel and their families. This Sunday, is Remembrance Sunday and all of the proceeds from the single will go towards furthering the work of the Legion in supporting serving and ex-Service personnel and their families.
The single is available on iTunes and on the single's
website at a cost of £1 ($1.62). The
Legion organises a fund-raising drive each year in the weeks before Remembrance Sunday, during which artificial poppies, meant to be worn on clothing, are offered to the public in return for a charitable donation.
This year's silent single release features amongst others comedian Jack Dee, tennis star Andy Murray, Radiohead front-man Thom Yorke, Bruce Dickenson from Iron Maiden, rugby union legend Martin Johnson, actor Bob Hoskins, England cricket champion Stuart Broad and top girl group The Saturdays.
It is expected to reach number one in the music charts on Sunday, although it will be going head to head with Take That's new release and comeback single
The Flood
Chris Simpkins, the Legion's director general said, "rather than record a song, we felt the UK public would recognise the poignancy of silence and its clear association with remembrance."
The video also features appearances from actors David Tennant and Peter Capaldi. Musicians Bryan Ferry, Alex James, Mark Ronson, Plan B, DJ Nihal and Gaz. Sports' Ian Wright. Comedians Jimmy Carr and Paul O'Grady and Corporal Simon Brown, shot in the face by a sniper in Iraq.
A Facebook
group has been set up and so far has attracted more than 30,000 members. The single is also available on iTunes
