Burlington - A man who posed as a woman on Internet dating sites has been arrested following a two month extortion investigation in Ontario.
On October 29 Halton Regional Police arrested a man who convinced men into providing personal information about themselves while posing as a potential female date on adult dating service websites.
Using e-mail, chat, text and voice mail the suspect was able to record and save all communications with the victims. Later that information was used when the suspect made demands for money. The suspect threatened to publish the information on social networking sites or directly to individuals close to the victims such as family, friends or employers.
The suspect went to great lengthens to hide electronic/digital trails that could potentially lead to him.
Kevin Fletcher, 43, of Burlington has been charged with eight counts of extortion and one count of criminal harassment.
