The Spanish Catholic printers of a satirical comic that pokes fun at Pope Benedict XVI have refused to release it to its publishers.
Issue 28 of Retranca features a cartoon cover illustration of the Pope, having been produced to coincide with his upcoming visit to Galicia, in northwestern Spain.
However, according to theComics Reporter, the printer, Godoy Jimenez, is now refusing to release it because of the "dishonest and disproportionate" content it contains.
Digital Spy reports that the wording on the cover translates roughly as: "I'm not bringing the usual loaves and fishes or the miracle of the host but making it rain dollars."
Despite having already completed the comic, the printer is withholding it, claiming that there is no formal contract with the publisher.
Pope Benedict XVI is visiting Spain in November, and Queer Kissing Flashmob have already announced that they will be organising a "gay kissing" demonstration when the pontiff arrives in Barcelona, to protest at his anti-gay views.
