Toronto - Best-selling American author Vince Flynn appeared in Toronto to promote his latest novel, sign copies of the book and answer questions from the audience. Flynn touched upon the Mitch Rapp character, an upcoming motion picture and other issues.
On Friday, the multiple time New York Times best-selling author, Vince Flynn, appeared at the Indigo bookstore in the Manulife Centre in downtown Toronto to promote his latest book “American Assassin” and to sign copies of the political thriller.
The novelist, who has written 12 books and has been a story consultant to the hit television series, “24,” discussed his book, how much the Mitch Rapp character has transformed his life and the upcoming motion picture.
Flynn began to write this series of novels because he realized the serious threat that the rise of Islamic fundamentalism has to the United States and the rest of the world, which he feels is not “going away anytime soon.” He also alluded to numerous occasions that Islamic extremism played a role in.

According to Flynn, who is a frequent guest on Glenn Beck’s television program, Mitch Rapp, the central character in Flynn’s novels, the ultimate goal in the books is “to get them before they get us.”
Despite the success of his novels, Flynn never expected to have his books read by political figures, including former United States Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. Also many people in law enforcement and the military, says Flynn, consider themselves to be a Mitch Rapp.
The book is planning to be made into a motion picture. However, there have been many delays due to complications by the distributors and producers. There have also been a number of re-writes (5) and one was written by “Shooter” screenwriter Jonathan Lemkin.

Antoine Fuqua is attached to direct but there is a long list of actors wanting to play the character of Rapp, including Gerard Butler, Eric Bana, Bruce Willis, John Hamm, Matthew Fox and Christian Bale: “In the next two weeks, a Scottish actor will be contacted.”
When asked if he would prefer a no-name actor, Flynn responded positively and said he would prefer that because then moviegoers can really get to know the unique character of Rapp and not the actor. Flynn noted that he has no say in the casting, similar to so many authors who have their books adapted into motion pictures.
“American Assassin” was released on Oct. 12 and is number one on the New York Times bestsellers list.
