Coronation Street fans will soon be able to listen to an album, featuring past and present cast members of the show and the Royal Philharmonic orchestra.
The album, called “Rogues, Angels, Heroes & Fools - The Album,” was created as part of the program’s 50th anniversary celebrations and will be available beginning 29 November.
"When I first heard that award-winning composer Trisha Ward wanted to celebrate 50 years of Coronation Street in music, I was intrigued,” Coronation Street executive producer, Kieran Roberts said in a press release. “When I met Trisha and saw how passionate she was about the show and heard the brilliant songs she was writing I very quickly became excited about the idea.
“Two years down the line I’m thrilled this music project has come to fruition in such a wonderful album of original songs - it is without doubt a unique and fitting way to celebrate 50 years of Coronation Street.”
The album contains songs written by award-winning writer Trisha Ward, and is called a “musical journey through fifty years of Corrie history.”
It includes pieces such as Tony Warren's 'Opening Episode’, Hilda & Stan's second honeymoon in ‘Woman Stanley Woman’ and ‘Norman Bates with a Briefcase,’ about Richard Hillman's stint as a serial killer.
Kym Marsh (Michelle Connor) pays tribute to Elsie Tanner, and Rachel Leskovac (Natasha Blakeman) performs a tribute to the show’s most famous barmaid Bet Lynch.
Kevin Kennedy is back as Curly Watts, alongside William Roache (Ken Barlow) and Betty Driver (Betty Williams). Several other stars also participate.
A song called ‘If It’s Too Late,’ sung by Katherine Kelly, who plays Becky McDonald, will be released as a single on December 6.
The Album is a Reckless Entertainment release in association with ITV Studios, and was recorded at Abbey Road studios under the direction of Rupert Christie.
“I’ve been a huge fan of Coronation Street for many years and have always thought the storylines would lend themselves perfectly to a dramatic musical journey such as Rogues Angels Heroes & Fools,” said composer Trisha Ward, of Reckless Entertainment.
It’s a huge honour to be working with ITV Studios, Kieran Roberts, Damon Rochefort and the amazing cast of Corrie on this exciting project.”
The Album is available exclusively at Tesco and by order at TescoEntertainment.com.
Rob Salter, Tesco’s director of entertainment, said they are proud to add the product to their portfolio of exclusive CD deals.
“The fantastic thing about Coronation Street, The Album, is that it not only pays tribute to the wonderful show, it is a great record with great songs,” he said. “We believe this will be one of our most successful albums this Christmas.”
