A new Internet radio station has been launched dedicated to Johnny Cash. The station will broadcast 24 hours a day and will be run by the friends and family of the singer.
The site was launched by Bill Miller who founded the official Johnny Cash website 14 years ago along with the late Johnny Cash.
The station will broadcast music and content by Johnny Cash seven days a week . Laura Cash and Joanne Cash Yates will be among the family members who will be hosting their own shows. A full schedule can be seen here.
As well as music the Internet station will broadcast documentaries and rare vintage performances from the singer.
A weekly podcast was set up some years ago and it was the success of this that has led to the new 24-hour Internet radio station which had its soft launch earlier this year.
Bill Miller, the founder of The Official Johnny Cash website, told me:
"Since Johnny passed seven years ago, we thought it important to be able to offer an experience which was new and fresh and the idea of our podcast, The Johnny Cash Radio Show was born nearly three years ago. We've done 168 consecutive one hours shows since inception."
"Based on the success of the podcast and listener input, we felt that a 24/7 radio stream would be well received by Cash fans. By doing what we're doing we are, in some way, bringing Johnny Cash back to his fans so that they can stay in touch and relate to him and his career on a regular basis."
Johnny Cash sold over 100m records and is the only singer to be inducted into the Country Music, Rock & Roll and Songwriter's Hall of Fame. His life story was told in the 2005 film "Walk the Line". Reece Witherspoon won an Oscar for best actress, a BAFTA and a Critics Choice Award for her portrayal of June Cash.
Best known for his music, he was also an actor appearing in TV shows and movies. Johnny Cash died on May 15, 2003 aged 73.
