article imageLegislator who campaigned against Sex Ed, profits from sex toys

By Laura Trowbridge     Oct 20, 2010 in Politics
The Democratic opponent of a Republican legislator happened to find kinky, sexual "stress relievers" on a company website for which this conservative is CFO, despite his stated disapproval of fringe sex-ed classes in colleges.
Georgia state legislator Rep. Calvin Hill (R-Canton) has come under recent fire by those trying to paint him as a hypocrite. According to reports, sex toys such as foam breasts and penises, Gay Pride flag lapel pins, and “safe sex” kits were being sold by a company that lists Hill as the CFO. The toys were sold online and reports indicate Hill would have profited from the sale of these items.
Hill claims he was unaware there were sex toys for sale on the company's website.
In 2009 Rep. Hill led a campaign against funding public university courses that taught male prostitution, oral sex, and “queer theory.”
According to Human Events, Hill's colleague, Rep. Charlice Byrd (R-Woodstock, Ga), wanted the professors to lose their jobs who were teaching these courses. But Hill's tactic was that these courses should not be funded by taxpayer dollars.
Hill said: "Our job is to educate our people in sciences, business, math." He went on to say professors cannot comply with that goal "by teaching a class in queer theory."
Atlanta Journal Constitution’s (AJC) Jim Galloway reported that Hill is CFO of Gila Distributing Inc., a mail order firm that sells promotional advertising products.
Hill’s Democratic opponent, homemaker Stephanie Webb, found her husband and campaign manager was looking over the Gila Distributing website one night. He found the sex products for sale and brought them to his wife's attention. She then posted the products on an Internet site, claiming, "It wasn’t to be mean, but to show the hypocrisy.”
Hill countered her claim of hypocrisy by saying: “I see no relationship whatsoever. With 600,000 products, there is always a possibility that something slips through. It’s certainly nothing we would sell knowingly.”
On Georgia Politico, Dustin wrote: "Republican Representative Calvin Hill has made most of his reputation on being anti-gay, anti-sex, and anti-education. He champions family values.
"However, he will sell out his values for a quick profit. He sells Penis and Breast squeeze todays. He also sells Gay Rainbow Flag lapel pens.
"Oddly enough, he also sells symbols of Communism."
