Palm Springs - American actor Tom Bosley has died at the age of 83 according to his agent. His biggest period of fame came in the seventies when he played the typical American dad Howard Cunningham in Happy Days.
As well as having several TV roles he was an active member of the Screen Actors' Guild. In amongst Happy Days Bosley also played a priest in the Father Dowling Mysteries, having the role of detective with a dog collar. The BBC Entertainment and Arts News also report that he had died whilst in hospital during the early hours of this morning.
Happy Days ran for eleven series having begun in 1974. He played the role as Richie Cunningham's father and also was well known for his role as Sheriff Amos Tupper on Murder, She Wrote. Bosley had been battling with lung cancer and his agent Sheryl Abrams said he had died as result of heart failure this morning whilst in a hospital in Palm Springs, California.
His last work was this year, in 2010, when he appeared in The Backup Plan starring Jennifer Lopez..
