Toronto - Political junkies, informed citizens and registered voters can now officially vote as 44 polling stations in the 44 wards across the Greater Toronto Area are open. Mayoral and city council candidates are on overdrive with nearly a week left.
There are only 9 days until Toronto voters head to the polls to elect the mayor, their city councillor and their school trustee. Most polls are showing a tight race between mayoral candidates Rob Ford and George Smitherman.
With Election Day right around the corner, all candidates are working overtime, grinding the pavement and kissing those babies in order to win your vote.
On Saturday, the city of Toronto opened 44 advanced polling stations with one in each of the 44 wards. This will give voters the opportunity to vote for their candidates prior to the Oct. 25 municipal election.

When casting your ballot, each voter must bring one piece of identification with name, signature and address or two pieces of identification, one with a name and signature and the other with name and address.
According to the National Post, the first round of advanced voting showed record numbers: 16,135 people voted from Oct. 5 to Oct. 8 and Oct. 12 to Oct. 13. In 2003, 10,899 people took part in the advanced voting process and in 2006, only 8,367 voted in advance. However, it doesn’t mean on Election Day, there will be a high voter turnout.
