article imageDog survives euthanasia attempt

Redford - Matt Olivarez, of Michigan, made the tough decision to have his dog euthanised, but the day after he brought home what he thought were her remains he found the dog standing in his garage looking at him.
Matt Olivarez decided it would be best to have his 11-year-old Rottweiler, Mia, put down because she suffers from a spinal problem that makes it difficult for her to walk. He is also facing financial difficulties and his home is in danger of being foreclosed.
Olivarez, 27, took the dog to the Westcott Veterinary Care Center in Detroit on October 9. He had decided to bring her body home so that he could bury her on his grandfather’s property so he placed her on some hay in his locked garage.
The next morning he was surprised to find the body missing. When he turned around he saw the dog standing up and staring at him.
He said he couldn’t believe it at first.
"Can you imagine how I felt?" The Detroit News quoted him as saying. "It was like a scene from 'Pet Sematary.”
His mother, Brenda Shead, said that Mia has a strong will and was the only pup from her litter to survive.
Olivarez said officials at Westcott told him that Mia may not have been given enough of the drug when they attempted to euthanise her.
Since the story was made public, Olivarez has been contacted by people interested in adopting Mia. He said he will keep her until he figures something out.
