article imageOp-Ed: Chilean Miners Are Free at Last

By Oscar Brooks
Oct 14, 2010 in Health
Who would have thought that after 69 days underground, 33 Chilean miners would still be alive. It is one of the most incredible events the world has witnessed.
They came out one by one in a capsule that went down over 2,000 feet below the earth. Thirty three miners were jubilant as they came out from underground. An estimated one billion people watched this happen around the world. When I first heard about these 33 miners being trapped in a mine in Chile, i thought it was amazing that they were still alive after 17 days. When it was announced that they would likely be able to get out sometime in November, that was really amazing.
We've seen so many mining accidents in the United States that end in tragedy. So it was good to see something positive come out of a bad situation. Kudos to all those involved in making this rescue a success. if you don't believe in miracles, this will give you a reason to. This should give many hope who don't have hope and want to give up. This goes to show that we should never give up. Against all odds sometimes that when miracles happen. The world witnessed this amazing miracle. It is good to see something like this that will give us all reason for hope. I wish all 33 of those miners and their families the best.
