Florida's Tampa Bay Rays' Major League Baseball team has a new sensation on their hands. It's a cool cat named "DJ Kitty".
According to the St. Petersburg Times, the black and white cat named "DJ Kitty" is the most popular thing going for the Tampa Bay Rays: "Since mid September, when the new video debuted at Tropicana Field, more than 921,000 people have viewed it online. That's 30 times the number of fans who show up for games — on good days."
The video now has well over a million views, with plenty more sure to come.
Darcy Raymond, the Rays' VP of fan experience, also known as D-Ray, said, "The genesis really came from the players. They sparked it."
He avoided telling who the cat belongs to though, or how they got the cat to do all of its super cool moves, or even any information about the real cat behind the deejay rapper persona. "We're not publishing who plays our mascot. That would be like admitting who's inside Mickey Mouse," said Raymond.
Even Rays' spokesman Rick Vaughn won't budge with any additional information on the cat. "We would prefer to keep the DJ Kitty a mystery," he said.
It is believed the cat belongs to Darcy Raymond though, and he did not deny it when confronted, nor did he confirm it.
When people suggested that DJ Kitty seemed stoned, Raymond said, "You would too, if you slept in the sun 20 hours a day."
