Vancouver - When a man snatched a handbag from an elderly woman in British Columbia, her 89-year-old husband gave chase and the thief ended up cornered in a stairwell.
An 84-year-old woman was walking with her husband in Vancouver parking lot when her handbag was grabbed and she was knocked to the ground, said a Vancouver Police press release.
The woman’s husband ran after the crook, who headed to a stairwell, not realizing it was a dead end.
A security guard heard the elderly man yelling at the purse snatcher, and helped keep him cornered while someone else called 911.
The woman was treated in hospital for minor injuries to her hand, and her property was returned to her.
Allen James Barkley, 28, of Surrey, was charged with robbery as a result of the incident.
A 72-year-old woman had her handbag snatched in Vancouver on September 14. She was hit in the head with a metal object and required stitches. The man in that case got away in a black pick-up truck.
