Santiago - One million people gathered along the coast of Valparaiso Bay on Monday to witness the largest Navy and Air Force parade in the history of Chile, thus closing the celebrations of the 200th anniversary of independent government.
Chilean Navy vessels and Air Force planes, plus several foreign warships and dozens of civilian ships and boats of all types, participated in the parade on Monday afternoon travelling in formation along the Bay of Valparaíso under the review of Chilean President Sebastián Piñera, observing from the training ship "Esmeralda” (four-masted barquentine tall ship shown in video above) accompanied by civilian and military authorities and representatives of friendly countries, including naval commanders from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, China, Ecuador, United States, Peru and the United Kingdom.

Twenty one ships of the Chilean Navy and five Navy units belonging to friendly countries participated in the Naval Parade. The visiting warships were the destroyer HCMS Algonquin of the Royal Canadian Navy, the Coast Guard Mantilla from Argentina, the Almirante Barroso of the Brazilian Navy, the frigate USS Jarrett of the United States Navy, and the frigate HMS Portland of the Royal Navy - United Kingdom.

Following the warships many other vessels took part in the parade including sail yachts, fishing boats, freighters, typical boats from regions of Chile, such as Easter and Chiloé Islands, adding up to about 250 ships and boats.
In addition to the naval and maritime vessels, 88 aircraft of the Chilean Air Force including F-16 Fighting Falcons, T-35 Pillán training aircrafts, A-29A Embraer "Super Tucano", C-130 "Hercules", Learjet 35, Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker, B-767, B-737 and helicopters also took part in the parade.

In total there were 3,300 naval personnel on board of Chilean and foreign sea vessels plus 120 pilots in the Chilean Air Force planes. About a million people watched the parade from the hills and posted along the shores of the cities of Valparaíso, Viña del Mar and ConCon.
