article imageTiger the brave cat saves 97-year-old owner from pitbull attack

By Cynthia Trowbridge     Sep 21, 2010 in Lifestyle
As a 97-year-old woman from Michigan was working in her garden she suddenly found herself surrounded by four pitbulls. Needless to say she was scared to death.
Sophie Thomas will be forever grateful for her brave cat named Tiger.
While Thomas was pulling dandelions out of her garden she found her neighbor's four pitbulls circling her. As one of the dogs lunged at her she hit it over the head. When it backed off the others came closer to her.
She was sure this would be the end for her when her calico cat, Tiger, jumped in front of her diverting the attention of the dogs.
As the dogs chased the cat Thomas was able to get away and escape inside her home.
UpNorthLive.com reports Thomas said, "All of a sudden these four pitbulls came marching in and they surrounded me. They kept going around and around. One of them kind of lunged for me and I hit him on the head and he backed off. Then another came towards me and I was scared stiff. I gave him a wack. All of a sudden, my cat jumped in the middle of it."
As Thomas washed her wounds she was sure her cat would be killed. She looked at the door and there was Tiger waiting to be let inside.
Pawnation.com quotes Thomas saying to People Pets, "I do not know what would have happened if my cat hadn't jumped in. She's very close to me and follows me around. She's very friendly with me because I live alone."
She also said, "I always thank God that my cat came because she was the one that really helped me out."
The dogs belong to Ann Daniels who lives behind Thomas. She said the dogs aren't violent and it was an accident.
Daniel's home has broken window and doors which allowed the dogs to get out.
Daniels said, “My son didn't shut the bedroom door and they went out the window. I feel terrible."
She said the doors and windows will be fixed so this won't happen again. She has been fined $300 and the dogs were quarantined for ten days.
