Fort Bliss shooting kills two

By KJ Mullins     Sep 20, 2010 in World
Media reports that Fort Bliss Army Base in Texas was on lockdown following a shooting this afternoon are incorrect. Two people have been injured and one killed after a shooting at the small on-base grocery store Monday afternoon.
At this time Col. Joseph A. Simonelli Jr. is not releasing the names of the victims.
The shooting happened at about 3 p.m. with authorities arriving at the scene within minutes.
It is being reported that there were three victims shot inside of a minimart type shop known as the "Shopette". One has died, and two women were injured.
The gunman was shot by law enforcement officials after opening fire inside the store.
The name of the dead and names of the injured are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Fort Bliss said in a press release that this "is an isolated incident and at no time was anyone in the
surrounding community in any danger. This is an ongoing investigation."
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (El Paso Branch) is on the scene and is now in charge of this investigation. Fort Bliss Law Enforcement and Criminal Investigation Division are assisting the FBI.
