According to the U.S. Census Bureau 14.3 percent of Americans are now living below the poverty line. There hasn't been a number reported this high since 1994.
The U.S. Census Bureau has announced breaking news that 14.3 percent of Americans are now living below the poverty line. That's about 43.6 million Americans which is the highest number ever recorded below the poverty line.
The Associated Press foreshadowed this number in an article "Hey buddy can you spare a dime? 1 out of 7 Americans living below the poverty line".
President Obama was quoted one day before the forecast saying, "The most important anti-poverty effort is growing the economy and making sure there are enough jobs out there. If we can grow the economy faster and create more jobs, then everybody is swept up into that virtuous cycle."
