The body of a governor in Venezuela was found Saturday morning in a river in San Juan de los Morros. Venezuelan Governor William Lara had been in a car accident on Friday.
A news release reports that Lara's car slid off of the highway into the Paya River Friday afternoon. The driver was able to pull Lara, 53, from the car but the strong currents swept him away.
Lara served as minister of communications from 2006 to 2008. He was elected governor of Guarica in 2008.
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez spoke out on Lara’s tragic death saying, "Let us be like William, let us be like him until the last second of life.”
