article imageRussian official fired after making teens 'kiss' his shoe

A Russian official lost his job after a video of him ordering teenage members of a basketball team to “kiss” his shoe and hand appeared on You Tube.
The video shows the boys in a physical education class running and performing push-ups.
Difkat Khantimerov, 44, who was the head of the Ermekeyev district for the past six years, put his right foot forward and ordered them to kiss it. After that he crouched down and laid his hand flat on the floor of the gym, making them touch it with their face as they exercise.
The incident took place in Bashkortostan, in southern Russia.
The Guardian reported that on Saturday the republic's president, Rustem Khamitov, said he was "relieving the official of his duties."
He stated that what took place looked like “an insult against schoolchildren," and that he was indignant that it had occurred.
Khantimerov reportedly told government officials that he had experienced the same thing in the Red Army, and that today's youth are not disciplined and need to be properly educated.
Russian news website said that Khantimerov tried, unsuccessfully, to learn who had shot the footage with their mobile phone.
Because the Russian judicial system usually sides with those who are wealthy and influential, people are more often posting things online, so that authorities will be forced to take action.
