Toronto mayoral candidate George Smitherman's brother, Arthur Smitherman, announced that he will run for a City Council seat in Ward 8 York West. He has also decided to back frontrunner "Red Tory" Rob Ford.
Truck-driving brother of Toronto mayor hopeful George Smitherman has decided to run against incumbent Councillor Anthony Perruzza in Ward 8 York West. Arthur Smitherman stated in an interview on Wednesday, according to the
National Post, that he will back frontrunner mayoral candidate Rob Ford.
Arthur Smitherman made the decision to run for City Council in January but for personal reasons he only registered last week.
“I’m supporting Rob Ford for mayor. That also is quite simple. I think that we have a pandemic of bad politics all over the world,” said Arthur Smitherman. “I think that the career politicians have forgotten what they should be focused on, and that’s fiscal responsibility and good ethics. The platform of Rob Ford’s mayoralty race is really built on that, so it’s really a no-brainer for me.”
He added that governments worldwide, not just Toronto, have a fiscal problem and lack ethics.
George Smitherman campaign spokesperson, Erika Mozes, said, reports the
Globe and Mail, that George has not been in contact with his brother in nearly 20 years.
