The father of British Prime Minister David Cameron has died in hospital in France after suffering a stroke while on holiday.
Ian Cameron, the 77-year old father of British Prime Minister David Cameron, has died after suffering from a stroke while holidaying in France with his wife Mary.
BBC News reports that David Cameron arrived at the hospital a short time before his father died.
The Prime Minister had been informed this morning of his father's stroke and of his increasing ill health and decided to fly to France to be with his father after discussing his condition with doctors in the French hospital.
Ian Cameron was born with deformities to both legs which took years and several operations to straighten them out.
He was a successful stockbroker and was a former director of estate agent John D Wood.
David Cameron has often spoken of his close relationship with his father, describing him before the general election as a person with a "sense of optimism".
David Cameron had been due to answer the first Prime Minister Questions in parliament since summer recess this lunchtime but the questions were held by deputy PM Nick Clegg.
