article imageWorld's Shortest Man declared in Colombia

By Sara Star     Sep 6, 2010 in Lifestyle
A 24 year old Colombian man, Edward Nino Hernandez, has been named the shortest living man in the world by the Guinness Book of Records.
He weighs 22 pounds (10kg) and is 27 inches tall (70 cm). He has not grown since he was two and doctors from the capital, Bogota, could not tell his mother why this is so.
Hernandez left school in grade eight, and works as a dancer in department stores. He is also starring in a film, as a drug dealer.
Hernandez dreams of owning a car, traveling the world, and meeting movie stars such as Jackie Chan. Does he think of girls? According to Yahoo News:
Nino says he already has a girlfriend. She's 18, is named Fanny and measures just under 5 feet (1.5 meters), he says.
Yahoo News states the only health issue he has is cataracts in both eyes, that prevent him from reading due to blurry vision. He requires urgent surgery, but his family cannot affort it. He is mentally sharp, and has a good sense of humour. His voice can sometimes be high pitched, and writing can be difficult using his stubby fingers.
According to BBC, Hernandez said there were drawbacks.
"It bothers me that people are always touching me and picking me up."
A Chinese man, He Pingping, who used to hold the record, died last March. He was 1.5 inches taller.
Hernandez is not expected to keep the title for long. Nepal’s teen, Khagendra Thapa Magar, will take the title when he turns 18 in October. Magar is 22in (56cm) tall - 1 cm shorter than the shortest man ever on record with the Guinness Book of Records.
