Caledon - Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) announced a short time ago that human remains were found in a wooded area near the Town of Caledon this morning.
Earlier today, just before 9:00 a.m. a citizen found human remains near Beech Grove Sideroad and Mountainview Road.
The Coroner has been to the scene saying that the remains are human. At this time the identity and sex of the individual found are not being released until a post mortem exam. The exam will take place at the Office of the Chief Coroner in Toronto at a later date.
The remains have not been moved from the location as the OPP Forensic Identification Unit assists local police investigating the scene. Until the scene has been thoroughly investigated Beech Grove Sideroad will be closed from St. Andrews Road and Mountainview Road.
Police are looking to see if the remains are that of missing nurse, Sonia Varaschin, 42. She has been missing since August 30 in Orangeville. Her car was found on Monday morning behind an Orangeville business with blood stains. There were also blood stained bedding found at the woman's home. It has been reported that there was a trail of blood found inside and outside of the woman's home.
Her family is aware of the discovery and are asking for privacy.
Caledon is close to Orangeville.
