Craig Newbold, self-made businessman in the technology industry and life-long resident of East Liverpool, Ohio is throwing his hat into the ring of politics.
In an interview with Mr. Newbold covering the reasons behind his candidacy he had this to say,
"I am fed up with the can't do attitude of state politicians."
Mr. Newbold went on to say
"to invoke real change he must get involved."
The Republican candidate plans to bring change to the Ohio Valley through job creation, education, and a re-evaluation of the tax structure which he feels is currently a deterrent to new business.
Mr. Newbold has already begun to effect change in two areas of his platform; job creation and education. Craig is the founder of NewLife Technical School with two locations. The main building is in East Liverpool, Ohio with a satellite building in the Kent State building in downtown Salem, Ohio. Mr. Newbold continued by saying
"initially his model for faith based non-profit vocational school in technology in a location of Ohio better known for other industries such as potteries was met with great skepticism."
He expressed that he is not a seasoned politician, never holding any public service office, which he feels is what perhaps is needed. People willing to bring their business experience and "out of the box" way of thinking in order to get things done.
"Jobs are the number one priority,"
said the candidate. Along with having someone in office who understands how to go about bringing jobs back to the valley which he feels is lacking in government at the present time.
"A rising tide floats all ships"
is Mr. Newbold's theory meaning bringing jobs and growth to one area of Ohio will ultimately help others. Even though he is not a seasoned politician, he wasn't shy sharing his ideas about the changes needed in the public school system as well. Believing schools need to embrace
"the classics and where children can be free to express new ideas," Mr. Newbold went on to say, "We also need to re-introduce civics."
Better education gives people the opportunity to become better citizens and better citizens make better employees.
Unseating the two term incumbent won't be easy and promising to do the impossible (returning jobs to Ohio) is a tall order to fill. But, if Craig Newbold has shown the community anything, it is that he is a get things done candidate. In referring to his technical school, his work with the local community, and school boards to help give back at the expense of his time and money. The soft spoken gentleman from East Liverpool may very well be the candidate to give Ohio what it needs, fresh ideas and a new direction in an ever changing world.
