Poland's Wroclaw Zoo proudly displayed its new arrival for the first time yesterday, a male pygmy hippopotamus that was born two weeks ago.
The baby pygmy hippo now weighs 11 pounds, but could grow to over 800 pounds.
The Pygmy Hippopotamus is native to western Africa, and mostly found in Liberia.
According to
KABC, the Pygmy hippo is an endangered species due to loss of habitat, poaching and hunting. There are now only about 3,000 of the species living in the wild.
Male pygmy hippos are rarer than females, so the birth of this little guy is a "significant event" for the zoo.
There have only been four births of pygmy hippos in European zoos this year, all of which were female.
Thenews reported that there are about 90 of these hippos in European zoos, but only 30 of them are male.
This new baby male hippo, born to mother Elpunia and father Carlos, will be traveling around Europe when it's older to help ensure the "continuity of his species."
Zoo officials have announced a competition to name the little hippo now.
