A gunman with at least one hostage and believed to have a bomb has entered a Discovery Channel building in Maryland. Police are currently trying to negotiate with the gunman via telephone.
A man with a handgun and possibly a bomb has taken several hostages at the Discovery Channel building in Silver Spring, Maryland. The building is currently on lock down. One of the employees has heard at least five to six gunshots.
There are no confirmed injuries.
The tactical team is trying to communicate with the gunman, according to Dan Friz, a spokesman with the Montgomery County Police Department.
According to Fox News:
Authorities have so far not confirmed how many shots were fired. Employees at the building were told to take cover in locked offices, according to local press accounts.
Children at a day care center located inside the Discovery Building were reportedly safely evacuated to a nearby McDonald's restaurant.
The suspect is identified as an Asian male and appeared to have some sort of device that seemed to be explosive, according to Friz.
Police have identified the gunman as James Lee from Washington, D.C. who has protested outside of Discovery Channel's headquarters in 2008.
