Apple has announced that on Wednesday September 1st they will be making major announcement concerning their product line.
A major announcement usually leads to technology analysts making predictions as to what Steve Jobs and company are going to announce. Wednesday's event will be held at the Yerba Buena Arts Center in San Francisco and the invitations are guitars with Apple cutouts in the middle, depicting a musically themed announcement.
John R. Quain of Fox News posed the question of, "Will Apple kill the iPod? Or will it transform it into a new, more drool-worthy device?"
Apple suffered issues with its release of the latest iPhone. The Nano has changed its shape a few times, but other than that, the iPod series has remained pretty much the same. So it Quain has speculated that Wednesday's announcement will have something to do with the iPod.
According to Quain the iPod Touch has the best potential for upgrades. It is the likely version to get an update. What Apple has seen is a steady decline in the number of sales for iPods, even though the most recent quarter had them at 9.4 million units sold.
Their is talk about adding the ability to video conference and adding 3G connectivity similar to the iPad. That would make the Touch function like their iPhones and allowing the iTouch to function like a phone without having to purchase the iPhone.
Lastly the iTV looks to be fine tuned to bring Apple into the television network but also make them a major player in it.
