Gunman Raoul Moat opened fire on himself before police officers opened fire on him using Taser shot guns given to them only hours before the stand-off.
Sky news can reveal the time line of the runaway gunman and the events surround the final moments of his life in which today’s revelation contradicts what was originally thought that police officers surrounding Moat fired their tasers first.
The source has stated the Police were making progress with Moat so that there was no need to use the weapons. Moat was thinking of how life would be for him in prison when the conversation then took a more ominous tone.
The gunman then got to his feet and put the gun to his head before he began speaking of friends and family and how he would miss them, short time later the source says Moat shot himself with a sawn-off shot gun, only then did police deploy the tasers.
It is understood that the tasers struck Moat in the back and front although none of the cartridges made proper contact with him. After being found lodged in the hood of the coat the gunman was wearing.
This could explain why in a post mortem no marks were found on the body of Moat and why his family called for a second post mortem to be performed.
The events surrounding the death of Moat are part of an ongoing investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission to determine whether the officers acted appropriately.
