Fayetteville - Two week’s worth of welcome activities greeted University of Arkansas students as the fall 2010 semester began with a poster sale, photo exhibit, and “Razorbash” at the flagship campus of the University of Arkansas System.
According to
KFSM, the university’s convocation was held on Aug. 22 and “the university introduced students to faculty, staff and administrators, and CNN anchor and University of Arkansas alumnus T.J. Holmes delivered the keynote address."
The “largest incoming class” in the University of Arkansas’ history started classes on August 23. The University of Arkansas was
established almost 150 years ago and "resides on 345 picturesque acres overlooking the Ozark Mountains."
Arkansas' "flagship university" made every effort to welcome students to the beautiful campus.
“Hog W.I.L.D. Welcome Weeks 2010” kicked-off August 20 and concludes September 4 in an effort to
welcome [PDF] every student to campus. W.I.L.D is the acronym for Welcome, Involvement, Leadership & Diversity.
It was a wild day on Aug. 26 as welcome activities such as the Jason Ward Photo Exhibit entitled “A Glimpse of East Africa” and UP Poster Sale continued in the Arkansas Union, and “Razorbash” were held outdoors.
“A Glimpse of East Africa” photo exhibit is being held in the Anne Kittrell Art Gallery.

For “Razorbash,” tents, booths, and tables occupied the area of campus known as Union Mall, which is located between the Arkansas Union and Mullins Library. Local and campus newspapers, radio stations, banks, student organizations, and many other area businesses participated in the student organization and merchant fair.

Staples of student food consumption…pizza restaurants, particularly those that deliver, were on-hand. Jim’s Razorback Pizza and Eureka Pizza, both handing out free pizza slices, were especially popular booths.

University Housing was represented with a booth focusing attention on the “No Woman Left Behind” initiative. The motto is: One sexual assault is too many. One student can make a difference.

Given the record-breaking number of students, and outstanding welcoming events for the fall 2010 semester, it is likely to be a banner year for the University of Arkansas and its’ students.
