Oakville - Halton Regional Police are investigating the sudden death of a customer at "B & D Auto Recycling" in Oakville, Ontario yesterday. The man, 64, was found in the yard pinned under a mini van.
The Oakville scrap yard allows its customers to go into the yard and look for the type of parts that they need. Once an item is located the customer obtains the part by themselves from the vehicle without the supervision of business staff.
On Wednesday the victim arrived at the yard at about 2:00 p.m. looking for a part. Two hours later he was found pinned underneath a scrapped passenger mini van type motor vehicle. It appears that the victim was attempting to remove exhaust parts using small portable jacks to lift the vehicle. At some point those jacks failed resulting in the van slamming down on the victim pinning him to the ground.
Emergency services were called when the victim was found. They removed him from under the van but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
There are no suspicious circumstances in this sudden death and it appears to have been an unfortunate accident.
The victim is from Toronto. His next of kin wish that his name not be released to the public at this time.
