At a morning press conference near Nathan Phillips Square on Wednesday, New Democratic Party leader Jack Layton announced that he was endorsing Toronto mayoral candidate Joe Pantalone, according to the
Globe and Mail.
“There is one candidate with the vision, the experience, the prudence and the courage to lead our city into the future and that individual is Joe Pantalone and I'm here to support him,” said Layton.
Pantalone went onto state that even though he and Layton have disagreed in the past, they also share a vision for Toronto. Pantalone added that he is “humbled” and “appreciative of Layton’s endorsement.
On Sunday Toronto Deputy Mayor Joe Pantalone helped to honour those who took part in the Allied invasion of Normandy, France on June 6, 1944. The invasion lead to the end of World War II but at a cost of 359 Canadian lives.
Earlier in the mayoral campaign, Pantalone
endorsed Layton’s son, Mike, in his bid to replace him as councilor in ward 19.
