The number one ranking female tennis player in the world will not be participating in this year's U.S. Open, a shocking first for the annual tennis tournament.
According to People, Serena Williams has announced that she will not be taking part in the upcoming U.S. Open due to a still-healing injury to her foot.
The star is said to be distraught that an accidental incident in a Munich restaurant has led to her not being able to defend her number one rank.
The tennis champion had surgery in July as a result of the accident, which severely cut her foot, and her situation is still too fragile to allow her to play in major tournaments like the U.S. Open.
The 28-year old Williams holds 13 world titles and is the top female tennis player, and is one of the top athletes in the world of any sport or gender.
