Ontario contractor busted for fraud

By KJ Mullins     Aug 20, 2010 in Crime
Ajax - Police have laid fraud charges on a self-employed home improvement contractor in Ajax for taking money for a job he never completed.
On Tuesday Durham Regional Police arrested a self-employed contractor, 43, after several complaints from members of the public. Investigators have IDed 12 victims who paid approximately $30,000 in deposits.
Lakeside Plumbing and Bathroom was run out by the accused. Concerns started last fall when a homeowner in Ajax gave $1,800 as a down payment for laundry room improvements. The job was never completed. A tile supplier was also out of money for the job. Earlier this year other residents found themselves paying for bathroom and other home renovations that were either not started or completed.
Tod Harvey, of Ajax, was charged with eight counts of fraud under $5,000, fraud over $5,000, uttering a false document, laundering in proceeds of crime and theft under $5,000.
