Mozambique, one of the strongest teams in the African soccer scene in British Columbia on Sunday night, became champions for the second time.
Mozambique was champion in 2008 and runner-up last year. This year they came back with renewed vigour and formidable players to clinch the champion's cup at the Burnaby Lake Sports Complex in what might be described as one of the most well attended soccer tournaments ever organized by the African Canadian Soccer and Cultural Association
(ACSCA).
Ghana, the second place winner, went on to face Mozambique after defeating Sierra Leone in a fiercely contested battle that ended in penalty kicks. After the dust settled Mozambique emerged as the strongest of all the 16 contestants with a score of 4-2 over Ghana. Sierra Leone, at third place, has never won the championship but undeterred keeps trying. It has been in the finals or semi-finals in the last couple of years.
Aside the champion's trophy, Mozambique also got a couple of other trophies, for example, for Most Valuable Player, most well behaved team with no yellow card, and so on.
