article imageSkateboarder and 'flyin lion' dog gain stardom

By Lynn Curwin     Aug 13, 2010 in Entertainment
Venice - A skateboarder and Pomeranian in California have received international attention for performing as Johnny and Austin the Flyin Lion.
Johnny Abbie Mitchell, 40, swings the 12-pound dog onto his arm, where the animal stands as the man walks, skateboards or snowboards.
Mitchell said when he got the puppy he tried holding it on its back like a baby, but the animal didn’t like it so he started carrying him around on his arm.
Mitchell, a painter and musician from Venice Beach, said that one day he was skating along with a drink in one hand when a dog came toward them.
"Well, I wanted to get Austin away from him so I just whipped him up and onto my arm and he just landed there perfectly,” The Telegraph quoted him as saying
"I didn't even drop my rum and coke!" he added.
Mitchell’s hair is cut in a Mohawk, and Austin has a Mohawk-type clipping along his back.
They have now performed at many events including film festivals, sporting events, television, the Sundance Festival and the Olympic Games in Rome.
