By Lynn Curwin     Aug 9, 2010 in Crime
Just moments after a police chase in the area, a 16-year-old boy was killed by a train near a railway crossing in north London.
Metropolitan Police had tried to pull over a silver Mercedes CLK on Ordnance Road, Enfield, but it refused to stop. Police continued to follow the vehicle, which did stop when it was faced with barriers down at the Enfield Lock Level crossing.
Three people got out of the vehicle, and two were arrested while one is currently classed as missing.
“Three men decamped from the vehicle,” the BBC reported a Metropolitan Police spokesman as saying. “Two men have been arrested and are currently in custody. One man is currently outstanding.”
A man who arrived at the scene about five minutes after the incident said that the bonnet of the car was almost touching the crossing gates.
“There was a police van on one side and they were putting a man into the van,” the BBC reported Reg Walker saying. “The gates were down at the time.”
He said the spot where the boy was killed was out of sight of the crossing.
British Transport Police said the boy was killed shortly after 1730 BST.
