Colombia's Vice President Angelino Garzon has suffered a heart attack just days after being sworn into office. Garzon's heart attack will not affect a meeting between President Santos and Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez set for Tuesday.
Garzon is at the Clinica Shaio cardiac center in Bogota, Columbia. He will have emergency surgery, reports the
BBC.
CNN reports that a cardiac catheterization performed early Monday morning showed several blocked arteries.
Garzon, 63, was a journalist and trade unionist before the election. He was sworn in on Saturday.
He has worked a union leader for many labor unions, and has worked as General Secretary of the Central Union of Workers between 1981 and 1990.
