London - Manchester United lifted the first trophy of the season yesterday beating Chelsea 3-1 in the Community Shield match. It is the third time in four years that United has won the Community Shield.
Lifting the shield for the third time in four years United set a benchmark from their premiership opposition with goals from Valencia, new boy Hernandez and Dimitar Berbatov.
Valencia opened the scoring latching onto a Wayne Rooney cross and a ridiculous goal from substitute Hernandez doubled United's lead with the striker falling when trying to strike the ball and scoring with his head.
Kalou pulled a goal back for Chelsea late on in the game, and Chelsea continued to threaten looking for an equaliser, but their fate was sealed when Dimitar Berbatov found the net in stoppage time.
