Taliban insurgents in Afghanistan have attacked the largest United States military base in the country. The attackers launched rockets the base, two blew themselves up and the two forces exchanged gunfire for one hour.
On Tuesday, Taliban insurgents dressed in suicide vests attacked the largest U.S. military base in Afghanistan, which injured three people, including one NATO soldier and two civilians, according to
Voice of America.
According to officials close to the situation, insurgents launched rockets at the base and then attempted to storm the base when two suicide bombers detonated explosives, which would have cleared the entrance so the fighters could enter.
The explosions prompted an hour-long gun battle, which killed and injured several Taliban fighters.
“Two of them blew themselves up and the other four were killed in the subsequent firefight,” said Kandahar provincial spokesperson Zalmai Ayobi.

Update #1: According to
Press TV, the Taliban spokesperson claims the insurgents killed 150 U.S.-led soldiers. However, officials say only one person was killed.
