The Delarue family won’t forget Sunday night anytime soon. After an evening at the cinema they treated their two daughters to a McDonald's. They got much more than they bargained for.
What could be more agreeable for kids on holiday with their parents than to be taken to see a Pixar studios film followed by an ice cream at the local McDonald's outlet. That’s what the Delarues must have thought on Sunday evening, according to French regional daily l'Union.
M Delarue said “We just wanted to get them an ice-cream because we weren’t ready to go home yet. So there we were, waiting in line to be served..” And that’s when things began to go wrong.
“Then we noticed that our youngest daughter, 12 years old, was literally transfixed by the TV screen on the wall” added the girl’s mother. No wonder. The screen was showing an erotic film on French TV channel W9.
The scenario was about two men on their way to Las Vegas, where one of them was going to get married. But on their way, the intrepid duo got involved in all kinds of adventures with the ladies they met. Meanwhile, the bride and the leading bridesmaid waited patiently in Vegas, and to help the time go by more quickly they decided to get more than a little friendly with a hotel employee and a male stripteaser. Would the marriage go ahead as planned? Answer in the next episode, it would appear.
Mr Delarue asked his child to stop looking at the screen and demanded to see the manager to find out why a McDonald's found it a good idea to be showing erotic films. “The employees were laughing about it” he said. “Instead of cartoons we got women eagerly messing around with each other.”
Marc Lecompere, a local McDonald's spokesman, explained that “The TV is on all day long in our restaurants and we normally show music videos. But the staff didn’t notice that the programming changes later in the evening. The TV was switched off and they will all be switched off after lunchtime from now on. I understand the family’s annoyance because I’m a parent myself.”
The Delarue family had no doubt been hoping to spend an unforgettable Sunday evening. They did, but would probably prefer now that it hadn’t been.
