A man who has been nicknamed ‘the news raider’ and ‘the fat guy who wants to be on television’ has shown up in the background during live reports on BBC, ITV, Sky and Channel 4.
He showed up in the background on a BBC story about a ceremony marking the fifth anniversary of the 7/7 bombings, in the background of an episode of the Antiques Roadshow, outside a report done at the Houses of Parliament, and at the Gaza protest march in May, among others.
Last year, comedian Russell Howard featured him on Russell Howard's Good News and called him the "fat guy who just wants to get on TV". He aired news clips which showed the man moving around to get into the shots several times.
The Telegraph reported that bloggers have identified him as a community worker from south London called Paul Yarrow, and that the profile picture on Yarrow's Facebook page looks like the mystery man.
A man called Paul Yarrow applied to be on Big Brother 2010, and said he is a well known volunteer and is "currently known as the fat guy who wants to be on television."
Screenshots of the mystery man in various locations can be seen on a website called fidgetwith.com.
